Webster’s Last Word & Friends

It’s not about the notes you play, it’s the one’s you don’t. – Miles Davis

Diverse musicians united through a non-profit label dubbed Webster’s Last Word, creating a broader presence for their music, without becoming subject to record label percentages and ownership. That result was a southern California, Blue Note influenced, collective of high-end quality recording sessions, with a cohesive brand presence. Straight from the heart packaging was produced with no-nonsense, single-sided printing, and no additional plastics or waste. Like the music, only the necessary parts were left in – and the excess left out.

Before there was Dizzy’s – in San Diego’s East Village, there was a Late Night Jazz Jam hosted by the amazingly talented Gilbert Castellanos and located in our old warehouse space on 7th Avenue. From 1996 to 1998, musicians from all around would come to gig after their evening performances at other venues wrapped up. 12-3am, straight ahead jazz players came in droves and stirred souls – proof that jazz in San Diego is alive and well. Many of the players from this event still jam at Dizzy’s today, and now Anthology in Little Italy. Their music is featured in the packaging above.
